Using APF in Counterfeit Interdiction

Adroit Photo Forensics was designed from the ground up to quickly recover, process, organize, view, and analyze photos. Following is a real world use case provided by one of our customers with a great standing in the Digital Forensics Community.

We were involved in an investigation of an alleged counterfeiter of material consumer goods. When we seized the computers one of the first things we did was run Adroit to recover the images on the systems and devices. This provided a wealth of evidence as well as intelligence about the suspect. We were able to recover the deleted images from several devices showing that they had attempted to remove evidence of items that we were specifically looking for. In addition to the images of the goods we knew of, we were also able to recover images of other brands giving our case better depth of the allegations of the suspect being a repeat offender.

Another aspect to the image recovery that Adroit was able to assist our investigation with was the EXIF data from the images. We were able to get this additional meta-data from the images to correlate with the file system meta-data to develop a better timeline of events as well as identify other potential sources of evidence such as cameras with memory cards not present at the time of seizure.
